Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Economist's Business Innovation Summit, where our EVP and Partner Solange Sobral joined Diageo’s Mark Sandys and Groupon’s Dušan Šenkypl on a panel about how Generative AI is transforming businesses. It was a whirlwind of thought-provoking discussions and high-quality content, but what truly struck me was the conversation on the rapid evolution of AI implementation across businesses.

Ready, Set, Scale: The AI Imperative

Gone are the days of debating the merits of AI adoption. The focus has decisively shifted towards "how" - how to effectively deploy AI, educate teams, and establish internal guidelines for responsible use. This newfound confidence was noticeable, with a clear sense that many organisations are moving full steam ahead with Gen AI.

While Gen AI shows promise for external, customer-facing applications, its development seems more focused on internal uses within companies.

However, a hint of cautious optimism lingered. While the fear of job displacement by AI has subsided, a new truth emerged: the future workforce will belong to those who can effectively leverage Gen AI. This highlights the critical need for education.

Education is the Cornerstone

The summit buzzed with discussions on equipping teams with the knowledge to navigate this new landscape. It's not just about the technology; it's about fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation. Change management strategies should prioritise cultural shifts, not just process optimisation.

We will need to reskill our teams, and individuals across companies will also need to reskill themselves. Companies are still discovering what this new skills landscape looks like.

The Future of Work: Humans and AI, a Powerful Partnership

The future of work isn't about AI replacing humans - it's about humans and Gen AI working together as an extension of our capabilities. The summit solidified this notion: Gen AI won't replace humans, but those who can utilise its power will undoubtedly thrive. This aligns perfectly with the growing focus on mastering prompts for optimal Gen AI outputs, a topic heavily discussed last year.

Regulation: A Collective Responsibility

While regulatory discussions were less prominent than anticipated, there was a strong undercurrent of ethical considerations and data privacy concerns. The focus is on harnessing AI responsibly, with a collective understanding of its potential impact on society.

Embracing the Next Chapter of AI

As our CEO & Founder Cesar Gon aptly stated, the "next chapter" of the AI revolution is on the rise. We are entering an AI-first era, where the focus will be on scaling adoption and, hopefully, personalising the user experience at an even deeper level.

The momentum is undeniable. The summit served as a powerful reminder that the future of work is not about fearing AI, but rather embracing its potential to empower us and shape a more innovative future.
