Meet GenGen, the Generation Shaping Our Future Sep 24, 2024 | min read Artificial IntelligenceCreativityCultureTrends By Paula Englert By embracing innovation responsibly, we can embark on a future where human potential evolves alongside technological advancement. Today, it’s impossible to escape debates about generative AI. While many discuss its creative capacities, legal implications, and productivity boost, few focus on the central element: people. At Box1824, we call this the GenGen – Generative Generation. But to understand this new generation, we must revisit the revolutions that brought us here. The first is the Industrial Revolution, or the Time Revolution, which changed production means and our relationship with natural cycles. Previously guided by the sun and moon, standardised units and work shifts now dictate our pace, increasing scale, speed, and productivity and leading us to multitask faster. The second is the Digital Revolution or the Space Revolution. Fully experienced by GenZ, this era radically changed communication, work, learning, entertainment, and relationships, peaking during the pandemic when time became our space. We met not where but when, as we all operated in a digital environment. We now arrive at the Creation Revolution, defined by generative AI, which expands and sometimes threatens our creativity in unprecedented ways. This revolution establishes a new modus operandi and a new generation: GenGen, comprising the youngest Zs and Alphas. Paraphrasing Ursula Le Guin, “Lighting a candle casts a shadow.” We are familiar with the shadows: fake news, voices, images, videos, data, and a growing mistrust in technology’s future. Will it steal our jobs? Replace humans? Turn art into a commodity? In the face of such uncertainties, GenGen will bring a deep distrust of brands, institutions, governments, and people, constantly seeking truth. However, there’s also much light revealing new possible worlds. This generation has the power to change the planet, using generative AI to democratise health and education, cure various diseases, and find new solutions to the climate crisis. Developing ethical and responsible consciousness is necessary to reach this ideal future and help GenGen make the right choices. In this scenario, brands play a crucial role in guiding GenGen. Those who connect with this generation, understand their unique characteristics and anticipate their demands will prosper and positively impact the world. By embracing innovation responsibly, we can create a future where human potential develops alongside technological advancement.Have you considered how to position yourself in this new paradigm? What realities do you want to build with this new generation? To promote collective well-being, we must be co-creators of the future we desire, not just trend spectators. Let’s prepare for this conversation. Learn more Paula Englert CEO, Box1824 0
