The Next Era of Data Consumption: From Insights to Intelligent Decisions Nov 27, 2025 | min read Artificial IntelligenceData By Daniel Viveiros For decades, organizations treated visibility as the main goal of working with data. Dashboards, reports, and BI tools were expected to provide clarity, deepen understanding of the business, and support better decisions. But traditional BI reached its limit a long time ago. Many companies now maintain thousands of reports that no one uses, spending time and money to keep them running while teams still export data to Excel to find the answers they need. The future of data consumption is not about showing more information – it’s about helping people make better decisions. To solve this, many organizations invested in self-service BI and data democratization. The idea gained popularity in the 2000s and grew after 2010. The promise was simple: enable business users to explore data on their own and generate their own insights. In practice, most companies struggled. Semantic layers and catalogs were incomplete or inconsistent. Data silos stayed in place. Collaboration between business and data teams did not evolve. Instead of democratization, what emerged was fragmentation, with more tools, more definitions, and more versions of the truth. Most self-service programs added complexity rather than creating real autonomy. Now, with the rise of AI, a more realistic evolution is taking shape. Decision Intelligence platforms are shifting the focus from informing people to supporting the decisions they make every day. With the help of AI agents, these platforms bring insights into context, connect information across sources, and work continuously in the background. They do not depend on users opening dashboards or building reports. They surface what matters at the moment it matters, inside the tools people already use. This is the move toward proactive alerts, embedded insights, and business observability supported by conversational and agentic capabilities. In this new model, AI agents behave less like tools and more like partners. They monitor key signals, detect anomalies, and suggest possible next steps. They do not wait for someone to ask a question; they highlight what is changing, such as engagement dropping in a region or an important account going silent. Instead of forcing users to search for answers, the system brings the answers directly to them.Behind this experience is a Decision Intelligence layer, where models, rules, and simulations work together to interpret what is happening and what actions to consider. It is supported by a data fabric that connects internal and external sources — structured and unstructured — and an agentic layer that translates analysis into practical guidance. The result is a cycle where the system senses, interprets, and acts in real time. What defines this new era is less about technology and more about the experience it creates. Data becomes contextual, appearing when it is needed. It becomes connected, bringing insights across domains instead of reinforcing silos. And it becomes continuous, learning from every decision and adapting to the pace of the business. This shift also changes what leadership needs to focus on. The central question is no longer how to visualize data; it is how the organization can make better decisions, consistently and at scale. The companies that stand out will be the ones that turn information into action every day, integrating insight into the flow of work. Their advantage will not come from the amount of data they collect, but from how quickly and intelligently they can act on it.At CI&T, we help organizations make this shift — from information overload to decision intelligence — by integrating AI agents, modern data foundations, and operational workflows that turn insight into action.
