Parents and caregivers experience unique challenges in the workplace and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made things harder as families shifted to supporting children with virtual learning. In addition to supporting remote work, we wanted to create a safe space for parents and caregivers to share and learn from each other.

When we hosted our first Parents and Caretakers Employee Resource Group (ERG) meeting, the turnout was overwhelming. CI&Ters joined from the United States, Canada, and Portugal and shared their experiences. We now meet monthly to discuss a variety of topics. Past topics have included talking to kids about gender pronouns, relocating to a new country with young dependents, and juggling work and caretaking.

Sandra Silva lives in Portugal and is a mother of four children ranging in age from 4 to 18. She has been attending the Parent and Caretaking ERG since the beginning. Sandra says: “[The ERG] is a valuable space where I feel safe to talk freely about my experiences as a parent and my kids.”

Participants join from different time zones, different regions of the world, and bring different cultural experiences that enrich the conversation. When we discussed water safety, new dad Oluwafemi Ayoola Sosami shared that as a Nigerian, he has witnessed many neighbors struggle to swim or perform CPR in an emergency. The ERG presentation resonated with him so much that he shared the tips with his wife and committed to learning CPR for his little one.

We are committed to providing parents and caregivers at CI&T with tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive.
