ENGINEERING AGILITY IN HEALTHCARE:

Scaling Digital Infrastructure for Growth

A global leader in blood glucose monitoring and digital health solutions set out to modernize its technology foundation to meet increasing operational demands and improve patient outcomes. Facing mounting operational challenges and the need for modernization, the organization partnered with CI&T to bring expertise in app modernization, digital product design and development, and cloud services. This initiative not only ensured the stability of this mission-critical digital infrastructure but also unlocked greater innovation, agility, and operational excellence.

THE CHALLENGES

Complex Infrastructure Management

The organization manages five production clusters and one non-production environment, an infrastructure footprint that was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. The complexity risked service continuity and directly impacted the customer experience.

Rising Operational Costs

The urgency to optimize infrastructure spending was apparent. Without an adequate strategy, operational costs were escalating, compromising the company’s financial sustainability.

Maintenance and Security Demands

Frequent maintenance and patching were required to maintain compliance and data security. The challenge was to improve protection and reliability without disrupting performance.

SOLUTIONS IMPLEMENTED

Modernization and Automation of CI/CD

CI&T implemented advanced Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices using Jenkins + Bitbucket, cutting release and build times significantly. Development teams were freed from manual processes, enabling them to focus on innovation.

FinOps
Structuring

To tackle rising costs, CI&T implemented FinOps practices that optimized resource management and improved visibility across the client’s technology investments. This approach unlocked greater operational efficiency, empowered the team to prioritize strategic initiatives, and provided a clearer view of where technology spend could drive the most impact.

Migration
to ROSA

By migrating OpenShift clusters to ROSA (Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS), CI&T enhanced scalability and reduced operational overhead. Around-the-clock infrastructure monitoring eliminated the need for dedicated maintenance resources, allowing teams to prioritize strategic enhancements.

Enhanced Security Practices

CI&T strengthened AWS access configurations by applying the principle of least privilege and integrating with Okta. These measures improved overall security and safeguarded against vulnerabilities, including employee offboarding risks.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Reduction in Release Time

Modernized CI/CD pipelines drastically reduced lead times,

Gains in Quality and Efficiency

Shorter build cycles accelerated validation and improved overall team performance.

Support for Continuous Innovation

Freed from operational bottlenecks, teams now focus on new business opportunities. Knowledge and documentation created a strong foundation for future innovation.

Numerical & Percentage Comparison:

Achieved US $100,000 in infrastructure savings, reduced release/build times by 50% for cases with code change and 95% for cases with no code change, and maintained zero downtime during cluster upgrades.

TECHNOLOGIES USED

AWS: Provided a scalable foundation for secure, high-performance cloud solutions.
Jenkins: Automated builds and tests, accelerating CI/CD pipelines.
Groovy & Bash: Streamlined custom scripting, improving process efficiency.
Terraform & CloudFormation: Enabled infrastructure as code for consistent, efficient resource management.
