With the advancement and acceleration of the global climate crisis, corporate sustainability is undergoing a profound transformation, shifting from a peripheral topic focused on institutional actions to a structured and systemic approach. Today, we see committed companies integrating ESG practices directly into strategic planning, corporate risk matrices, and business models.

Increasingly conscious consumers, investors, and the global market no longer tolerate vague promises or generic goals. Faced with a rigorous regulatory landscape and demands for transparency, it is no longer enough to merely announce long-term commitments: organizations must prove their actions, monitor actual progress, and ground each target in measurable, transparent, and science-based data.

ESG has migrated from the realm of empathy to pure operational survival and risk management. The climate crisis (E) has ceased to be abstract and has begun to collapse urban infrastructure, leading the workforce to systemic exhaustion (S), requiring radical transparency governance and continuous auditing (G) to avoid crises and irreversible liabilities.

As it completes three decades of its journey, CI&T is advancing its sustainability maturity. In the face of new climate challenges, CI&T is proud to announce that its emission reduction targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This unprecedented milestone makes us the first software company in Latin America to obtain scientific validation of its net-zero targets from the institution.

The SBTi develops standards, tools, and guidelines that enable companies to establish greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets aligned with science, ensuring the efforts necessary to keep global warming below 1.5°C.

We view this validation not just as a badge of honor, but as a way to integrate the environmental agenda into a more concrete logic across our operations and value chain. In the technology sector, decarbonization is a pillar that spans from the efficiency of the code we write to the cloud infrastructure we utilize and the suppliers we hire.

"Responsibility is not a destination; it is a practice you commit to every day, at all levels of the organization. The companies that endure are not those that got it right once, but those that never stopped trying to get it right."

Cesar Gon, CEO da CI&T, ESG Report - 2025

Our Science-Based Targets

For those who follow our Diversity and Inclusion journey, the logic is similar. Just as we established quantitative and public goals for representation, we now apply the same model to the climate issue, with an additional element: independent external scientific validation.

For companies, there are three scopes that together cover the total carbon footprint. Scopes 1 and 2 refer to direct emissions from the organization and its energy consumption. In the case of CI&T, these emissions primarily derive from the operations of our offices and the electricity consumed within them. Scope 3 encompasses GHG emissions from our value chain, including commuting, business travel, and the impact of all products and services purchased by the company.

An Overview of Our Targets

Net-Zero Target
CI&T has set a target to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

Near-Term Targets
CI&T has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 64.12% by 2036, from a 2025 base year.
Value Chain Engagement: CI&T has also set a target that 95.4% of its suppliers, by emissions covering purchased goods and services and capital goods, will have science-based targets by 2031.

Long-Term Targets
CI&T commits to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90.0% by 2050, from a 2025 base year. Within this target, CI&T commits to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90.0% and Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90.0% within the same timeframe.

Transition Strategy and Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Decarbonization requires technical innovation and paradigm shifts. Reducing the climate impact of a digital transformation company demands well-defined planning, accompanied by a clear and structured strategy. To ensure the technical viability and practical applicability of our targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), CI&T has structured a Decarbonization Plan based on data, opportunity assessments, and environmental and financial quantification, supported by scenario building. Below are some of our present and future initiatives.

Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy
Optimizing energy consumption in our direct operations constitutes the first line of action in our decarbonization journey:

  • 100% Renewable Energy Matrix: In Brazil, where the majority of our operations are concentrated, 100% of the electricity consumption of our facilities and remote work (home office) is covered by energy from renewable sources via International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs). Additionally, 72% of the energy consumed in our offices is purchased directly on the Free Energy Market from clean suppliers.
  • Connecting Our People to Renewable Energy: We maintain a partnership with Flora Energia that offers a benefit to CI&Ters in Brazil, connecting users to renewable energy sources and allowing discounts on residential electricity bills. In 2025, this benefit generated an estimated reduction of 13.65 tCO₂e, equivalent to planting 1,707 trees. Additionally, the initiative enabled the offsetting of 350 MWh of electricity consumption through clean energy credits throughout the year.
  • International Certification Strategy: CI&T adopts renewable energy certification instruments to ensure the sustainable origin of the electricity consumed in its business units. In international operations, such as in China, electricity consumption will be progressively offset through the acquisition of Green Energy Certificates (GECs), which verify clean generation.
  • Post-Carbon Infrastructure and Electromobility: Our main offices in Brazil hold prestigious environmental certifications, such as ISO 14001 and LEED Platinum. To encourage sustainable mobility, we provide charging stations for electric vehicles and prioritize the use of biofuels (ethanol) in our corporate fleet and business travel.

Technological Innovation and Environmental Education
As a global digital transformation company, we direct our technological expertise to decouple corporate growth from emissions increases:

  • Cloud-Based Digital Architecture: By eliminating the need for local physical data centers, we significantly reduce energy consumption through server sharing and optimization. To achieve this, we maintain over 95% of our relevant corporate data managed and stored in the cloud, in partnership with companies committed to the energy transition.
  • Green Software and Green Coding Practices: Through our corporate university, we offer training paths dedicated to the climate crisis, corporate environmental strategy, and Green Software and Green Coding practices, promoting the integration of environmental criteria into digital solution development and daily decisions.
  • Ecomilhas – Sustainable Urban Miles: This program, in partnership with Ecomilhas, encourages more sustainable ways of commuting by rewarding trips made on foot, by bicycle, by public transport, by charter, or in electric and ethanol-powered vehicles. Participants accumulate urban miles that can be converted into multi-benefits, stimulating the reduction of emissions related to commuting and corporate travel, while strengthening employee engagement in the climate agenda.

Supplier Engagement and Scope 3 Governance
Since Scope 3 represents more than 90% of our total emissions, concentrated mostly in the categories of purchased goods and services, the decarbonization of our supply chain is the pillar with the greatest systemic impact:

  • Value Chain Engagement Project: Based on the SBTi's Engaging Supply Chains on the Decarbonization Journey guide, our strategy involves four integrated stages: prioritization of strategic suppliers, internal alignment (Sustainability, Procurement, and Legal), technical support and training for partners, and the implementation of a centralized platform for emissions data collection and progress tracking.

Hyper-efficiency and the Agentic SDLC
We understand that inefficiency in the software development lifecycle generates waste not only of time, but also of computational resources and energy. Therefore, we are redefining software engineering with the Agentic SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle). By evolving from humans augmented by AI to an agentic execution model—where AI executes and humans guide, validate, and orchestrate—we transform code quality and security, building them continuously along the way. This approach aggressively targets flow inefficiencies, eliminating wait times and achieving an end-to-end hyper-efficiency that can be up to 20 times greater than conventional development processes. Lean and continuous processes support the development of digital experiences that are "sustainable by design."
